What is your cultural background? Current residence?
Family is mostly italian and irish, I’m originally from seattle and living in Philadelphia

Can you tell us about your background and how you became a DJ? From there when and why did you get into making music?

ESTOC: I’ve always loved electronic music and producing/DJing seemed like the next logical step
I started producing first (~15 years ago) and then DJing came later!

How do you design sound? What was the first analog/digital piece you purchased? Did that set up how you curated/produced music?

ESTOC: I design sound almost entirely through sampling + software synthesis. I’ve had a few hardware pieces over the years but nothing has really stuck as the flexibility of a DAW has always been what’s made the most sense to me

INTERVIEW - ESTOC

We appreciate all the remixes/collaborations you have done with numerous artists, could you tell us a little bit more about how you got into remixing and whats next?

ESTOC: remixing has always been my intro into music! i got into production because i wanted to more actively interact with the music i listen to and love.

Are you currently working on a new album, could you share any details?

ESTOC: I have several projects in the works right now, including a few solo EPs as well as collaborations with Kablam & Oldyungmayn, among others

We really like the brightness and energy of the mix you did for us, what are some of the ideas you had when you recorded this set?

ESTOC: I wanted to bring in a lot of disparate ideas and genres in this mix, to explore moods and emotions as they evolve, rather than basing the mix off of a specific genre
What are some of your influences over the years?

ESTOC: too many musically to name! i’m a big fan of sci-fi and horror movies (as well as video games) and i try and learn as much as i can about the world i live in

Could you share with us some of your favorite venues, clubs, or underground spaces where you performed? How was your last gig with UNSOUND?

ESTOC: The more DIY the better! some of my best memories of DJing are playing in a park on a friend’s PA system
Unsound was definitely a special experience! it felt really special to close out the night with so many excited ravers.

What were some memorial moments for you as an artist and do you have any advice for our listeners and artists in the world?

ESTOC:I really can’t stress how important experimentation is!
make bad art and destroy it! make bad art and keep it to remix another day! not everything has to be a hit right out of the gate
